If you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:3-5
Children’s imaginations are delightedly captured by the idea of pirates and searching for lost or hidden treasure. There is something magical about the thought of discovering a chest full of gold or rich jewels, becoming instantly rich, having our lives changed in a second. In kids’ films, the search is never easy, full of challenges and battles, but the reward is worth the effort.
While I’m pretty sure the author of Proverbs wasn’t thinking of pirates, you get the metaphor! If only we approached God and His word in the same way that we would approach a treasure hunt – with extreme purpose, determination, certain of the knowledge of eternal gain and truth. If only when we get lost in the ways of the world we would more readily remember to cry out to our Heavenly Father for insight and understanding!
How precious is your dwelling place, Oh Lord Almighty? My soul longs, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the Living God. (Psalm 84:1-2).
