Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
These are perhaps the best known verses in all of the book of Proverbs. Yet it’s easy to skim over verses like these when we know them so well. Ask God to give you fresh revelation and understanding of these words today.
We are commanded to trust in the Lord with our whole heart, not part of it – yet, somehow much of our attempts to trust are half-hearted. We know, in our experience of human relationships, that half-trusting someone is not going to result in healthy dynamics – allowing space for doubt to grow, or choosing to purposely withhold trust from a friend or partner, will often end badly.
The world around us tries to convince us that we should be trusting in riches, strength, fame, privilege, education, performance, significance etc. Our understanding of who we are is slowly twisted as we have heard these messages from a young age. Yet as we open our hearts to these desires we diminish our trust in the Lord.
