Seek and you will find

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33

We are all looking for something and we all have some expectations: we want to be happy, successful in our private and professional life, healthy, etc. What are you looking for?

We often think that we need to take care of many things in order to be satisfied and fulfilled. Or we expect something to happen or that our circumstances change, thinking that our satisfaction and fulfillment depend on them. But God wants to teach us that only He is the true source of satisfaction. That's why he instructs us to seek Him first.

To be honest, the above verse is a pretty radical statement. Instead of focusing on ourselves, on what we will wear, eat, where we will live, Jesus says that our primary focus should be on the things of God. It's a matter of attitude that says, I'm not in the center of everything, before I think about myself and what I need, I want to see the kingdom of God progress.

But what is the kingdom of God? When we seek God's kingdom what are we really seeking? To seek God's kingdom is to seek His rule, primarily in your life, then your family, church, city, country... How many things would change in your life if God ruled:

  • in your marriage
  • your finances
  • the way you spend your time
  • your relationships etc.

Every day we are exposed to different challenges to investing our time and energy in the temporary things of the earthly kingdom that do not have much spiritual value or to focus on the things of the eternal kingdom of God. With our focus on the things of God, we will be able to live contented and fulfilled lives, not because our circumstances will change, but because we seek first what is eternal and allow God to take care of everything else we need.

Lord, I want to seek Your kingdom and Your righteousness. I want You to rule my life. And may this same desire overflow the churches in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Do not let us ever settle for anything less than You, the living God.
