Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
When my walk of faith began, it was truly mesmerizing to meet my Heavenly Father! Frankly, I was not as enthusiastic as I discovered that I was to receive the “whole package”, not only a gentle Father but also a King and Master who claims a place of ultimate authority in my life. Many are discouraged by this revelation, and the most common objection to Christianity is the demand for submission that God undoubtedly places before us. And that’s where the problem arises. It is difficult to trust anyone. Key people in our lives often did not play their part as they should have. In the past 50 years or so, it seems the world has completely devalued authority figures.
Fathers destroy families, politicians are often corrupt, egoistic fraudsters, and the intellectual elite has brought us to a place where in many, supposedly the most advanced countries of the world, for the first time in the history of mankind, we are no longer sure who is of which gender!? Who to trust, who to follow, to whom to surrender? We sometimes bring this mistrust in authority into our faith.
Nevertheless, in the Father we have a Person who did not rest on mere words, promises without any weight. We did not meet any of the gods of other religions who remained unreachable, distant, capricious, dangerous… Dad confirmed his love and affection.
Indeed, very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8)
Such a God deserves to be both Father and King. Let His kingdom come!
Father, we want to submit and surrender to You fully. We know we can trust You because You are a faithful God and Your promises are always YES and AMEN. That’s why we come to You again with appeal: Be our King! Let Your kingdom come and let Your will be done!
