Proverbs 20:6

Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?

We all can fall into the tendency of thinking of ourselves as better than we actually are.  We find ourselves making promises that we cannot keep; a pact to keep a secret and then two days later we find ourselves passing the information onto someone else; a declaration of trust „I will never hurt/betray/leave you“ that is broken sooner than we ever saw possible; marriage vows that seem so easy to say and yet so hard to keep.

Our intentions are good, but it seems like our sinful nature just keeps getting in the way.  It is rare to find a friend we can call and rely on as faithful – even rarer that we can consider ourselves as faithful.

In spite the multitude examples of failing love that surround us,  we need not be entirely dismayed.  Once again we can lift our eyes upward and look to Jesus' example of faithfulness.  As Paul so beautifully states in 2 Timothy 2:13:

"If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself."

Jesus, thank you that we find a faithful person in You – thank you that faithfulness is an integral part of Your character and that because of that we can fully trust You.  I repent for my faithlessness in my relationships, friendships and character, and most of all in my trust toward you.  Thank you for your unfailing love towards us – may your love be our strength for today.
